Professor Weng Kee Wong is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Fielding School of Public Health, UCLA, a position he has held since 1999. In 1997, he received the First Independent Research Support and Transition Award from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). He previously served as the Director of the Multipurpose Arthritis Center Data Analysis Core (1995–1998) and participated in numerous studies on rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including the “High versus Low Dose Pencillamine in Systemic Sclerosis” trial and the “Long Term Observational Study of Early Severe RA Patients.” Currently, he serves as the biostatistician for the NIH-supported “Multi-Center Phase II Trial of Oral Type I Bovine Collagen in Scleroderma” and is actively involved in NIH-supported research in dentistry and environmental health sciences.
Professor Wong’s research focuses on the optimal design of experiments, particularly with applications to clinical trials and non-linear models. He has a special interest in the development of multiple-objective designs, which are renowned for their flexibility and practical relevance. His work is extensively published in leading theoretical and applied journals, spanning fields such as pharmaceutical sciences and theoretical biology.
In addition to his academic contributions, Professor Wong holds significant editorial and leadership roles. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Scientific Reports and the Journal of the American Statistical Association – Theory & Methods Section. He is also a member of the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) Presidents’ Award Selection Committee for 2024–2026. Professor Wong is a recipient of many prestigious honors, including being elected a Fellow of both the American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). From 2021 to 2024, he was named a Yushan Scholar by the Taiwan Ministry of Education, the highest accolade for visiting professors in Taiwan.
